Better for broad rpm band power - Equal Length or UNequal Length? adfadfadfadf
Notes to us for future comments:
How UNequal length headers create tuning problems. How EQUAL Length headers eliminate tuning problems and also also finer engine tuning to further improve performance. Importance on the street as well as at the track. Adjustable headers: Idea (to adjust header tube lengths and thus "tune" headers to a specific rpm range) doesn't work well if headers are NOT equal length. Example: 440 Plymouth racer "adjusted his header length all over hell through one season and NEVER saw a gain!" I told him that we had repaired/altered (for a local customer) the same exact passenger side of the "brand name" header he was using and measured that header side and found it to have 7" of tubing length error. I told him that with that amount of error (and assuming the other header had about the same length error) as he changed the length of the header he was probably making some cylinders "better" and, at the same time, making some others "worse" which would explain why the car never ran any better. He bought a set of headers from us (TRUE equal length) and with the same tube size and collector size dropped .15 second on the first run WITH NO TUNING CHANGES. This particular car was running about 11.30s before the switch. The ET improvement probably represented a 15-20 HP gain on this car. Also: E-mail us with suggestions you would like us to comment on?
